Mobile market is dynamic. It undergoes changes in the fashion, taste and habits of the customers. The market has come a long way to become a billion dollar market in recent times. In the current mobile market, we come across a range of mobile gadgets. For better understanding, let’s classify them into two broad categories- Keypads Handsets and Touch screen mobile phones.
Undoubtedly, the touch screen mobile phone is relatively new. It has come to take over the mainstream after the launch of Apple’s high profile touch-screen iPhone. Others followed the suit.
Presently, both the devices (keypad and touch screen) catch the attention of the users with their own features and specifications. So, which is the best? Here goes the analysis. It is said that the touch screen obsession is recent phenomenon.
However, in the short span, the touch screen mobile gadgets have attracted a good number of customers. Now, the question arises, will the touch screen mobile phones overtake keypads? Let’s have a look at the keypad mobile phones.
The keypad mobile phones are the oldest form of mobile devices. Initially they had their launch in 1960s. After that, typewriter inspired QWERTY keyboards took the place of keypads. The design was inspired by the computer keyboards.
Plus points of the Keypad phones are their user-friendliness as the users just have to press the button. But, they are inclined to damage due to liquid spills. The QWERTY keypads are featured with small and tiniest keys, which make it too hard for customers to reach a particular key without touching the neighboring keys.
Coming to the touch screens, they were firstly launched in the market in the 90s. Palm’s stylus-based PDA is a watershed in making touchscreen devices popular. After that came the Psion’s EPOC-powered palmtops.
For all practical reasons, Apple iPhone is the most popular. The superb feature of iPhone is the large and high-def display. The touch screen devices come with their own problem.
For example, the touchscreen is the slow reply of the resistive touchscreen. Sometimes, the icons refute reacting to the finger taps.
There are other such plus points and minus points in both the devices, but still both types of devices have made niche in the market during their period.
